Repair/Upgrade Chlorination Stations, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California

Project Status: Completed

Design Build for Repair and Upgrade of Chlorination Stations North/South Systems, including demolition of existing/old stations. Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base is self-sufficient in regard to their water supply. Large domestic water wells pumping as much as 1400 GPM in conjunction with multiple base-wide reservoirs and an extensive distribution system are utilized to meet virtually all of their water demands. Existing disinfection of the raw water obtained from aquifers has historically been by use of chlorine gas injection. The scope of the project included consulting, design, construction and training for new on-site generation of sodium hypochlorite to replace the old gas type systems. Most of the sites are in remote, environmentally sensitive locations and Miller/Watts provided leadership and expertise for minimizing time and environmental impacts while keeping existing systems active through innovative ideas and partnering with the government. This project is fully designed and construction is underway on 5 of the 10 sites to be constructed.
