Second, this new facility was designated as a critical component in the emergency plan in the event that an earth quake where to damage the bridges. Last, the facility was an integral phase in the upgrading of the San Francisco waterfront providing increased public access and complementing the renovation of the historic Ferry Building. The location and construction aspects of this project posed significant construction challenges for Miller/Watts Constructors. The project scope included demolition of existing wharves and decks in tight working areas adjacent to historic buildings and structures.
