This Design/Build project involved the design and construction of a 26,308 SF Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) to support ANQ-272 Sentinel Weapons System’s Pacific node. Distributed Ground System-6 (DGS-6). Watts converted an existing historical hangar, originally constructed in the late 1930’s, into the SCIF facility, constructing a secure reinforced CMU concrete facility within the existing hanger as a standalone building. project was designed and constructed to LEED requirements. Significant security demands included high security communications requirements, server room, UPS, raised flooring to support multiple work stations. Specific project challenges included the tight facility constraints, security issues, and multiple changes. Watts Constructors’ responsibilities in terms of utilities and sitework included the building pad for concrete work, as well as exterior sewer lines, water lines, storm drain lines, and electrical and communication lines.
